Both the Santa Barbara Elementary and High School Districts have been recommended for the prestigious five-year approval of their individual Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) plans. The plans are written by the Elementary and High School GATE Coordinators in cooperation with parents and teachers. Approvals are granted on a one, two, or three year basis, with three-year being recognized as "Exemplary," while the coveted five year approval is deemed "Outstanding." This recognition speaks to the professionalism of the teachers, the challenging curriculum, and the parent involvement that all combine to create the educational excellence of the program. The plan is reviewed by a panel of experts in gifted education, and they spoke particularly of the strong parent support our school districts enjoy.
The five-year approval is contingent upon a site validation. Districts opting not to participate in a site validation will receive a three-year approval.
